Cotswold road accidents claim three more victims
A WORKMAN has described arriving at the scene of a Mickleton road collision in which a motorist died after it exploded.
Robert Devine said he and Robert Sheasby, both from Rugby, came upon the scene of the accident on the B4362, which happened when a blue Fiat Punto was in collision with a black Nova SX that then caught fire.
Mr Devine added that there was a lot of smoke and all the damaged car's windows were smashed.
He said they were told the damaged vehicle was in collision with the rear of another car, which it then shunted up the road.
At the time of the accident at 1.15pm last Wednesday, the victim was believed to be male.
Mr Devine said: "A farmer was nearby and asked the man to get out but the man refused.
"He would not get out of the car. He locked the doors apparently. The next thing it went up in flames."
Police said the victim was a woman and the incident was not being treated as suspicious.
Another fatal crash happened on the B4450 Churchill Road, between Churchill and Chipping Norton, at around 7.45pm on Thursday, May 1.
Paul Turner, 23, of Green Lane, North Leigh, Witney and Lee Parker, 28, of Moorland Road, Witney, died when the blue Rover 214 they were travelling in left the road and collided with a tree. Mr Parker was driving and Mr Turner was one of two passengers thrown clear.
The second passenger, a Chipping Norton man aged in his 20s, was taken to Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital where his condition is serious but stable.
The police appealed for witnesses to telephone 0845 8505505.
Police also appealed for witnesses to a collision that happened at approximately 4.30pm on Sunday, May 4 on the B4035 near the railway bridge just outside Chipping Campden.
A white Fiat Van was in collision with a grey Saab saloon.
The van driver, a 44-year-old Aston Magna man, was taken to John Radcliffe Hospital where his condition was described as stable.
The Saab driver, from Billingham, Cleveland, received minor injuries and was taken to Walsgrave Hospital, Coventry but later discharged.
His passenger, believed to be his wife, fractured a finger and was also taken to Walsgrave before being released.
Witnesses are asked to telephone the police on 0845 090 1234.
